Who We Are
Schmidt Family Farm was started in 1951 by Gertrude & Clifford Schmidt, Matt's Grandparents. Currently, Matt & Emily Schmidt operate the farm, along with our kids who are 4th generation here. You're likely to also see our German Shepherd Smokey, American Quarter Horse Grizz, numerous chickens, and trusty mouser Ziggy.
In 2001 Matt and Emily planted over 600 Black Walnut trees in two groves on the farm, for future timber production. Each year Matt has meticulously pruned each tree for maximum growth.
In 2010, we expanded our farm from 40 to 120 acres, joining 2 historical properties together that were originally one. Since then we have been working hard to improve the woodlots for sustainable, healthy timber.
In 2015 and every year since, 500 Balsam Fir transplants were added, and this will be a yearly tradition as we plan to offer home grown Christmas Trees in just a few short years!
We began public lumber sales in 2019 and are exited about the growth we have embarked on with the addition of our self-serve roadside stand, now open 7 days a week, year round.
